Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, is also spelled Chanukah, Chanukkah,
Chanuka and Khanukah. However you spell it, the holiday commemorates the rededication
of the holy temple in Jerusalem in the second century BCE. One of the most important activities
each night is the lighting of the Menorah candles. Potatoes, my favorite food,
are also involved in a Hanukkah celebration. You
have to eat latkes, potato pancakes. Okay, there are also special pastries and fritters, but I would
always head for the latkes first.
